Deputies rescue 18 caged rabbits dumped near Golden warehouses

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies are asking for help tracking down the owner of 18 caged rabbits that were abandoned next to a Golden warehouse dumpster earlier this month.

A social media post by the sheriff’s office Friday included body-worn camera captured by deputies who found the bunnies May 10 in the 15700 block of West Sixth Avenue Frontage Road.

“You’re going to put these out by the trash?,” a deputy remarks in apparent surprise as she loads one of the cages into a county vehicle.

The office wrote in the post that two litters of babies were among the animals found.

“This isn’t how responsible pet ownership works, and it’s illegal,” the post reads, adding that deputies are “all ears” regarding tips about who dumped the cages.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the office at 303-271-5070.
