U.S. 285 near Bailey reopens after multiple vehicle crash causes nine-hour closure, 1 evacuated via AirLife helicopter
One person was taken to the hospital in an AirLife medical helicopter after a crash on U.S. 285 shut down the highway near Bailey for nearly nine hours Saturday.
Colorado State Patrol troopers responded to the crash around 7:33 a.m. Saturday and the highway shut down in both directions shortly after, according to trooper Sherri Mendez.
U.S. 285 was closed for more than nine hours Saturday between Traet Private Road and Mooredale Road in Park County — about 18 miles south of Aspen Park — according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The highway reopened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, CDOT officials said.
Mendez said at least two vehicles were confirmed to be involved in the crash — a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and a Toyota Tacoma truck towing a trailer.
As of 4:40 p.m. Saturday, there were no confirmed fatalities and one person was taken to the hospital in an AirLife medical helicopter, according to Mendez.
Information on the number of people involved in the crash and what caused the collision was not available Saturday.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
